The Season of Mercy

From the beginning, Divine Mercy was the focal point of the Entering Canaan Ministry.  That was because St. Faustina and the image of mercy were instrumental in my personal healing from abortion  which came after hours in the bathroom of my apartment crying on the floor, repeating over and over again, "Jesus, I trust in You!"

As the ministry continued to grow and I wrote the weekend retreats, this theme carried into all of our work – that His mercy was bigger than any sin we can commit, and that healing came from Him and His mercy, not from what we did or did not do. TRUST.

I love the quote below from Pope Francis. It is "the season of mercy." So true, not only with abortion, but with all sin. He calls us back to Himself, to His peace, love, and forgiveness.

I also love the fact that the Pope looks at himself and the church and its failings, speaking of it being a time for mercy for all because we are all sinners, and sadly, many have been hurt or left the church because of some of things he speaks of. But, the church is and will always be our mother, and nothing or no one should separate us from the life of Christ and His sacraments no matter what sins others have committed, or how deeply we have been hurt.

Trust that “this time is a kairos of mercy," and He will not let us down!

“Mercy is something much larger than the one case you raised.  I believe that this is the season of mercy.  This new era we have entered, and the many problems in the Church – like the poor witness given by some priests, problems of corruption in the Church, the problem of clericalism for example – have left so many people hurt, left so much hurt.  The Church is a mother: she has to go out to heal those who are hurting, with mercy.  If the Lord never tires of forgiving, we have no other choice than this:  first of all, to care for those who are hurting.  The Church is a mother, and she must travel this path of mercy.  And find a form of mercy for all.  When the prodigal son returned home, I don’t think his father told him: “You, sit down and listen: what did you do with the money?”  No!  He celebrated! Then, perhaps, when the son was ready to speak, he spoke.  The Church has to do this, when there is someone… not only wait for them, but go out and find them!  That is what mercy is.  And I believe that this is a kairos: this time is a kairos of mercy." ~ Pope Francis
