I have always loved the Catskills…such beautiful country. Mountains, water falls and green hills as far as you can see. I always feel so close to God when I am up there, and I have many fond memories from going up to my friend Owens summer house almost every weekend. If you have heard my testimony, you will know that I also attended the Woodstock festival when I was 17.
A museum is open at the site of the Woodstock along with the concert pavilion . It is fun to walk through and see all the pictures of such a historic event but it also reminded me of the issues of those days and the turmoil we felt as kids not knowing when our next friend would be drafted to Viet Nam. We also had the assassination of R Kennedy And Dr King, and the Civil Rights Movement . We were a generation searching for meaning and rebelling against the establishment. We, I think, were looking for peace, and joy in all the wrong places in a world that had gone a little crazy (including us). We were also looking for love which we confused with sex and which sadly led the way to the demise of the family through birth control and free sex. It certainly was a slippery slope that continues to destroy to this day.
I had a lot of great friends that I still, to this day care a lot about, but relationship love in those days was not true love. When I think about the contrast of my life between then and now, we really knew nothing about true love. Our love was selfish and self seeking, and God help us, many babies have died as a result of those times and the "changes " that came about, while the love I have come to know in Jesus Christ is self less and other seeking.
As I browsed through the museum to see all the pictures and watch the videos from Woodstock, I was so grateful that I have met the one person who gives us true peace, joy and love, Jesus Christ!
