"But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed." 1Peter 4:13
Rejoice in suffering? Is St Peter nuts? Who rejoices in suffering? And yet, the spiritual part of you may 'get it". As adverse as we are to human suffering, the core of our being knows it is there we are united with Christ, at the cross. There is a peace to be found there unlike any other. It is an intimacy that is truly a gift. Love of the Cross.
There are many treasure in our faith and I am sure we never stop uncovering them in this life. The total emptying of "self" in order to allow Jesus to live in us.
This past week I was praying on "Lamb of God, You take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us!"
It is He alone who takes away our sins. We cannot do it. As we grow closer to Him and His love, we are transformed by Him. His presence in us takes away our sins…we just need to stay out of His way.
Padre Pio
"O what precious moments these are. It is a happiness that the Lord gives me to relish almost always in moments of affliction. At these moments, more than ever, when the whole world troubles and weighs on me, I desire nothing other than to love and to suffer. Yes my father, even in the midst of so much suffering I am happy because it seems as if my heart is beating with Jesus' heart."
Diary of Saint Faustina
"Jesus says; 'My daughter, I want to instruct you on how you are to rescue souls through sacrifice and prayer. You will save more souls through prayer and suffering than will a missionary through his teachings and sermons alone. I want to see you as a sacrifice of living love, which only then carries weight before Me… And great will be your power for whomever you intercede. Outwardly, your sacrifice must look like this: silent, hidden, permeated with love, imbued with prayer."
Maximilian Kolbe
For Jesus Christ I am prepared to suffer still more.
John of the Cross
In sorrow and suffering, go straight to God with confidence, and you will be strengthened, enlightened and instructed.
I am so grateful for the beautiful gift of our Catholic faith and its many treasures. I pray always to be open to His will and inspiration that I may always learn more, and love more.
Jesus we trust in You!
