"Therefore, look! I will now allure her. I will make her go out to
the wilderness, and will speak to her heart.” Hosea 2:14
The flight of the Israelites to the Promised Land is not unlike the journey of healing from abortion. These oppressed people longed to be freed of their bondage, so God called them out o f Egypt and away from the sinfulness, the idolatry and the great suffering they endured.
They followed Him despite their fears, as He led them into the desert with the promise of a new life.
We who have experienced abortion also longed to be freed. Freed from anxiety, depression, shame, guilt, bad behaviors and the many dynamics manifested in the bondage of abortion. Like the Israelites, it is often this very bondage that is the catalyst which brings us into the desert and causes us to reach out for healing.
There is a great fear for us as well, in embarking on a journey through the desert of post abortion healing. It requires going out into the unknown unsure of what awaits you and what truths you may have to face. Like God brought the Israelites away from the sinfulness of Egypt, He also “allures” us in our journey to the Promised Land.
This journey while similar will also be different for reach one according to their needs. It does not matter how long it takes, only that you are journeying with Him one day at a time. God wants to heal each person to the core of their being. To give an unshakable healing. You will be tempted to quit along the way, or even feel you are moving backwards or being punished at times, but the desert is not a punishment. It’s a means to get to Canaan, the Promised Land.
May we all reach the fulfillment of Canaan.
