Write, My daughter, that I am mercy itself for the contrite soul. A soul’s greatest wretchedness does not enkindle Me with wrath; but rather, My Heart is moved towards it with great mercy (Diary, 1739).
For you, I am mercy itself; therefore I ask you to offer Me your misery and this very helplessness of yours and, in this way, you will delight My Heart (Diary, 1775).
If you are like me I wanted anything but to have to look at the truth of abortion experience. It was just too painful and I believed that there was no way back for me.
I saw God as angry and vengeful and did not believe there could be any mercy. I did not know His heart, and so I ran and ran from what I had done making my life even more miserable by making bad decisions and punishing myself.
In the above quote from St Faustina's "Divine Mercy in My Soul" we learn that if we are sorry, God is not full of wrath but of mercy. That He waits for us and desires for us to give Him our misery so that He can give us His mercy.
In this season of Lent, the greatest time of mercy, may we each open our hearts to His love for us. May we contemplate His sacrifice for our sins and trust that He is there just waiting for each one of us to come to Him.
