“Martha, Martha,” the Lord replied, “you are worried and upset about many things. But only one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, and it will not be taken away from her.”…
How many times do you find yourself in that position. Worried and upset about many things. Weighed down by frustration, or fear because you feel out of control? Running around n life, chasing who knows what thinking it will bring fulfillment and peace.
How many of us describe our abortions as "something I allowed to happen to me". How many felt it was the only way out and even if you were not aware of it and thought you were in control, how many of us found out later we were never in control.
These emotions often follow us into other aspects iof our lifes after abortion. The problem is we often do not know that is what is happening. We may panic if we feel out of control. We overreact and take on anxiety because we think we have to get it all done on our terms.
Jesus is asking us to let go and trust. To truly believe He is there for us and will lead us through our healing. That we do not need to be in control but rather we must allow ourselves to be vulnerable to Him. Something that can be so scary for those of us who have experienced abortion. He wants to show us we can trust Him. That we just have to keep our eyes on Him and He will take care of the rest. That control is actually an illusion and our busyness an obstacle to our healing at times.
Do we have to educate ourselves about the dynamics of abortioon? Of course. Do we have to reach out for help whether professional, in a ministry or a spiritual advisor? Yes. Do we have to fulfill the obligations of our vocations? yes. But we also have to sit at the feet of the One who Heals in trust, like Mary did knowing it is the "good portion" and it can never be taken away.
