Life in the world can be very distracting. Between politics, drama between different influencers, things in the church or in our families – we can become so caught up in the things of the world that we miss the star!
At a recent Holy Hour, it struck me. Where was everyone else that night? Why wasn’t the crowd spilling onto the roads of Bethlehem? We don’t hear about many people being in the stable that night. The drummer boy, the shepherd, but why wasn’t it jam packed? What was everyone else doing that was so important that they totally missed the birth of our Savior?
They were distracted by the things of the world. It’s easy to do.
I have recently entered a new phase in my life. I left my full-time position at Good Counsel as director of Lumina. I will still be doing the Entering Canaan retreats as I was before I went to Good Counsel, and, I am hoping, if it is God’s will, to devote more time to our initiative “Penitents of Love.”
It is so easy to get distracted by figuring it all out as many things will change in life without a full-time job. It can be a little scary, a leap of faith. And then of course, there are those worldly distractions I mentioned before.
It is a call to deeper trust. To a deeper surrender to His will for me and an ever-present gratitude for all He has done in my life. I have been so blessed to meet so many wonderful people in this healing ministry and have been privileged to watch so many come back to God through His mercy. A reminder of His constant goodness to us.
I am learning through this new experience to let go more, to be patient (not my best virtue) and especially to always keep my eyes on the Star. The star which leads us to the poverty of the manager there to find Jesus, Mary & Joseph. That stable may not look like much, but it has all I will ever need in this world and the world to come!
A Blessed Christmas on this the Birth of Mercy Himself!
