I do not
think it should come as any big surprise that abortion increases domestic
violence. What can be more violent then the act of abortion? So, if we are
protecting that, of course the rest would just follow. In my own
marriage I remember allowing myself to be mistreated by my husband. There was
no physical abuse but the emotional abuse was awful and I just allowed it. I
felt unworthy to be treated differently after what I had done. I thought I deserved that kind of treatment. There
are many post abortive women out there who feel the same way I did.
Recently there
has been a study on domestic violence by Planned Parenthood that I mention here: http://reclaimingourchildren.typepad.com/lumina_a_ray_of_light_aft/2010/06/abortion-domestic-violence.html
It was followed by a an article by Amanda Marcotte who justifies abortion as a
solution to domestic violence. It is no solution. http://reclaimingourchildren.typepad.com/lumina_a_ray_of_light_aft/2010/06/abortion-is-no-solution-for-domestic-violence.html
At Good Counsel, http://goodcounselhomes.org/ ,where we house pregnant, homeless moms ,we
address the problem in a healthy way. Some of our staff have just completed the current education
program on “Domestic Abuse” by conducting classes for all of the
residents. This means that all of our
residential staff, as well as all of our current residents, have received professionally
prepared and presented information on a topic that has become prevalent in our
society, especially with the mothers who come to us for assistance. Violence is no excuse for abortion and no mom should
have to make that choice because of someone else’s misbehavior.
Abortion increases risk of domestic violence

BOSTON — “I’m going to beat that baby out of you,” Jeremy Powell told his girlfriend who refused to have an abortion.
Powell,
of New York, made good on that threat. He kicked and punched his
girlfriend, causing her to miscarry. He pleaded guilty to felony
abortion and second-degree assault for the attack in 2002.
That
case is one of more than 100 outlined in Forced Abortion in America, a
report put out by the Elliot Institute. First released more than five
years ago, the report was recently updated to include new trends and
more cases.
Studies
and reports continue to find a link between domestic violence and
abortion. The Elliot report highlights women who were beaten or killed
for refusing to abort and women who were violently coerced into
aborting their children. The Elliot Institute, a Pro-Life organization
based in Illinois, calls abortion the “unchoice.”
A
study released last year found that couples who choose abortion were 30
percent more likely to experience domestic violence in their
relationship than those with no history of abortion. The findings were
statistically significant, though the authors urged more study in an
area that has received “very little research attention.”
Induced abortion and intimate relationship quality, published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Public Health,
examined data from the Chicago Health and Social Life Survey. Hundreds
of men and women, both married and single, from the Chicago area
participated.
The
study found that unintended pregnancy had “considerable potential to
strain intimate relationships.” It can exacerbate violence or precede
it. Participants were interviewed about yelling, threats and physical
abuse.
